Homeschool Memoirs - Agendas

So this is my tentative homeschool plan for Gracie. I only planned for 4 days to start off slow. Since it's her Kindergarten year and she is only 5...I want her to still hae plenty of time to be a kid. The schedule looks like this (as you can see it's not very detailed):

Monday: Handwriting, Reading, Numbers/Math, Social Studies
Tuesday: Handwriting, Reading, Numbers/Math, Science
Wednesday: Handwriting, Reading, Numbers/Math, Bible
Thursday: Handwriting, Reading, Numbers/Math, Art/Music

With it being my first year homeschooling and not having lots of money to spend I am just hoping it's enough. This is very important to me. I really wanted to do the Sonlight Core K. But it was way too expensive and with a new baby it was impossible. :( Anyways, I have lots of workbooks and each day includes a lesson from KidSparkz preschool curriculum. I also plan to do reading from the Sonlight book list. The only thing I'm not really sure of is Science and Social Studies...I'm not sure what to use or if I should just use reading and the world around me to teach. Any suggestions are more than welcome!! I'm using Cozi Central to try to keep myself organized. LOL I'm thinking that's kinda impossible. :)

Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

  1. Good luck with your new adventure!! I love the Kindergarten year of schooling. :) Social Studies at this age is all about the Community. Think field trips...post office, library, fire dept, grocery store(they often give tours), etc. Are you connected to any other homeschoolers in your area? It would be a perfect opportunity to just dole out the field trip assignments and let each mom plan one. Most of all....have fun this year!!! You really can use the internet and the library to put together most of your year.

  2. I think you have great setup already for K5! For science and social studies, I would use living books from the library - sonlight reading list like you said. Or you could use the God's World and Social Studies from Abeka - I think they are around 10 bucks each. No matter you are on your way to a great year of homeschooling! Are you doing co-op this semester. I think apps have to be in by sept 5 :) I need to do that soon! LOL

  3. I am starting Kindergarten for the third time this year... or at least my third child is starting K, but I am as a homeschool mom! Everyday is a new adventure and challenge. I pray God blesses you as you start this new phase in your life!

  4. Good luck with your school year. You might also want to consider the Five in a Row program. They have a website, that is what I used when my girls were young. I am now revisiting it with my 5 yr old son. It's easy, inexpensive and very laid back.

  6. That is a great plan! It will be great using the Sonlight reading list. For our 5.5yr old for history we are using History for Little Pilgrims by CLP (Christian Liberty press), the bible (any children's bible you like) and for science we are using CLP's science for K5. Oh and like other's have said...just being out and about in the world brings social studies to life.
