Derek by Dawn Martens {cover reveal}

Derek (Resisting Love 4) by Dawn Martens
Publication date - Fall 2013

Rylie Sullivan hasn’t had an easy life. She is broken, so broken she doesn’t think she will ever be fixed. When she meets Derek, he barges into her life and tries to break down the walls she has so carefully construed to keep what’s left of her safe. When Rylie’s past mixes with her present, will Derek stand by her and help her survive? Or will he bail for the next pretty thing?

Derek Tremaine has had it easy. Coming from a wealthy family and blessed with good looks, Derek has breezed through life. After years of one night stands, and a few half ass attempts at relationships, Derek has almost given up on ever finding the woman for him. When he sees Rylie however, he can’t help but be drawn to her. Rylie is different, more so than any other person Derek has met. Rylie’s beauty- her tattoos, piercings and beautiful blonde dreads drew him in, but it’s her sweet, kind nature that makes him want to stay around and protect her. Winning Rylie’s heart will be his greatest challenge yet, but Derek knows the reward will be more than worth it.
Which is why Derek has no intentions of letting her go.

{about the author}
When Megan Smith is not writing she is a wife to her high school sweetheart and a mom to her son. She lives in the New Jersey. At the end of the day when she is done work and being a mom you can find her curled up with a good book or writing on her current story.

{my thoughts}
I was so excited for this book to FINALLY be out. Really it wasn't really that long ago that I read Trying Not To Love You but I was left with a cliffhanger from hell. It was horrible. I had so many horrible thoughts about the sweet Megan Smith. I can't say them out loud or she'd get a restraining order. But seriously if felt like FOREVER (ok, ok...it was just since May, sheesh!) before I got more Hunter & MacKenzie. This story was heartbreaking and made me cry more than once. But it was soooo worth it. I love these guys. Smith has created characters that make you want to be their best friend. You actually care what happens to them. At times their fictional status leaves your mind completely. To truly appreciate this book I think you need to read Trying Not To Love You...sure you could grab it but you are going to miss out on so much. This book picks up where it leaves off and starts us on a whole new chapter. And let me tell you it's an emotional roller coaster. You thought they had obstacles before...woooo boy you ain't seen nothing yet! More secrets and surprises are just waiting to be revealed. Awesome sequel...and now I need more! ;)

Evanescent by Carlyle Labuschagne {cover reveal}

{about the book}
Her fall has just begun. Only his touch can save her from the shift that could destroy it all.

Within my blood runs a thing our kind calls the Shadowing Disease. It shadows over, and bends everything to its will. When the first blood- shift came, it tore through flesh and blood, threatening to bend me, break bone, shatter my mind and entrap my heart with its honeyed, seductive poison. It came with vicious intent, moving my thoughts and altering me forever. The shift has caused a rift within me. No one was safe when it entrapped me in its claws of foul lust. But I have the only antidote against the evil that becomes me – his touch alone has the power to release the spurs of sweet darkness that clung on for dear life. I knew what I had to do; the desperation pulled my mind with the deep determination of a hungry predator. But by the time the revelation raised me from the dark dungeon of my bounds – it might have been too late.

Dehumanized by Michael Loring {cover reveal}

Title: Dehumanized
Author: Michael Loring
Genre: NA Paranormal / Dystopian

Ryan Zachery lived his life the way all high school teenagers should -
carefree.
Until he was attacked by an unknown assailer and awoke in the hospital with lycanthropy. Taken by armed guards and dragged away from everything he held dear, Ryan was thrown into a US camp made for those 'suffering' from lycanthropy.

They caged the beast, but now he will show them that he will never be dehumanized.

Michael Loring was born in Bristol, Connecticut, but has lived in a variety of places such as Florida and Tennessee. He likes to think of himself as an amateur Lycanthropologist, studying werewolves ever since he was eight years old when he first saw An American Werewolf In London. He spent most of his life switching between home school and public school, always focusing on his passion of writing no matter what. His interest in writing was sparked in the second grade when his teacher encouraged him to write short stories for the class, earning him more than one award at school assemblies for Creative Writing. He currently resides back in his birthplace of Connecticut with a house full of women who like to drive him up the wall until he finishes his chores. Though they seem to avoid him during the night of the full moon for some unexplainable reason...

The Fab Life Blog Tour {review, excerpt & giveaway}

{about the book}
It’s the life I was born to live: billionaire’s daughters, living amongst the rich & famous. But my mom kept me a secret from my dad. Until now.

I am so out of my league. Fancy parties, expensive cars, and a private school for the elite… It sounds like a dream. But everything is not as perfect as it seems on the outside. Here, the secrets are dirty, and the lies comes easy.

Welcome to my fab life.

{excerpt}
My palms are sweating, and my heart literally feels like it’s going to beat it’s way out of my chest. I decide that I may vomit before the night is over, but hopefully it won’t be on myself or Ty. I run my hand over the bannister was I walk down the stairs. I keep in there incase I trip, which is very possible. I try to focus on the steps and not on the fact that I’m about to go out of my first date.
Gah. I hate that word. Date. It’s too gray. I like black and white. Nothing about this night is black or white.
I count the steps as I walk down. There are exactly 32 steps from the top floor to the bottom floor. When I get to the bottom, I am forced to look up at Ty. He looks good. Really good. Dammit. He doesn’t look nervous at all. In fact he looks completely cool. Of course he’s cool. He’s probably been out on like a million dates before. Why should he be nervous?
I am relieved to see that he’s wearing jeans and a concert shirt. I didn’t underdress or overdress, and I’m glad I decided to wear jeans. I’m going to ask Toby’s advice more often.
You look beautiful,” he says, and then hands me a bouquet of purple flowers.
Flowers = date, right?
Ugh, why does this suddenly feel awkward?
I take them from him. I have no idea what kind of flowers they are. I feel like I should know, but it’s not like I frequently get flowers from guys. “Thank you. They are beautiful.”
What am I supposed to do with the flowers? Am I supposed to take them with us? Or am I supposed to leave them here? There should a Dating for Dummies book that covers this. Maybe there is. Memo to self - look it up. I will be more prepared next time.
Next time? Calm down, Kihanna, I tell myself. Let’s get through tonight before we start thinking about a second date.

{about the author}
I am a YA/ NA author, with an addiction to NOS & Red Bull energy drinks. My guilty pleasure is the TV series The Lying Game and The Vampire Diaries. I'm 23 years old. I currently live in St Louis, with my husband of 2 years.

{my thoughts}
This was a really cute, fast read for me. I can't wait to see more from this author about Kihanna. All of the books I have read by Mercy Amare have made me feel as if I knew the characters and this one was no different. I found myself giggling along in the embarrassing moments (like the excerpt above) almost experiencing them myself. Wonderful book with a great cast of characters!

{about the author}
I was born and raised in the Bronx and moved to Port St Lucie, Florida nine years ago.  I am the youngest of three children.  We are a very dysfunctional family, but it was fun growing up in that chaotic environment.   I met my once in a lifetime, Edgar love in college.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health.  I’ve been married twenty-three years and have two children.  I have always had a passion for reading and writing short stories.  With the support and encouragement of my husband I decided to write my first novel, Tormented.  It was a struggle but fulfilling at the same time.  I plan to continue to writing.  I’m not looking for fame but sharing my stories.
It’s hard writing a biography about oneself because it almost sounds like your tooting your own horn. Anyone who knows me would say I’m nerdy and in a way I am but nerds can be cool, funny and sexy. (I’m just saying.)  I’m currently working on Bound by Grace.  I like the characters.  Grace is fiery and quick-witted.  She’s not afraid to speak her mind or stand up for herself and Brock loves to get her riled up.  Every day I learn something new as a writer.  I hope readers enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.

Six Saviors series by Carly Fall {promo post}

{about the book}
As a shy, awkward social misfit, Abby has gone her whole life feeling as though she’s different from everyone else and she simply doesn’t fit in well with society as a whole. She longs to feel a real connection with someone, and she finally does when she meets Noah.

Unbeknownst to Abby, Noah is from another world, here to hunt down the evil of his people that has been unleashed on Earth, and he’s been at it a very long time. He’s certain he isn’t going to be able to return home, and anger and the need for revenge are his constant companions. His focus has been eradicating the evil and making them pay for taking his life on his world away from him.

When Abby and Noah meet, there is an electric sexual attraction between them that can’t be denied by either of them, an attraction that Noah tries to fight so he can keep his focus on his mission. But when Abby gets dragged into the evil from Noah’s world, he realizes that maybe with Abby he can find a home here on Earth…if he can save her in time.

{excerpt}
Noah walked Abby to her car, a red Honda that should have been made into scrap metal about ten years ago. But at least the damn thing got her from point A to point B most of the time.

Thank you for everything,” she said as she fished around in her bag for her keys. “Dinner was really wonderful. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted steak like that. I’m going to have to remember this place.” As if she could afford it on her salary, but maybe if she saved up it could be a special treat for herself.

She watched Noah out of the corner of her eye as he leaned his back against her car and looked her over, smiling. It made her feel slightly uncomfortable, the way his eyes roamed her face, watching her dig through her purse as she tried to find her damn keys. She felt herself flush and chastised herself for not putting her keys in the designated key pocket of her purse. That was what they made all the pockets in purses for—a place for everything, and everything in its place. It was too bad she ran her life a little bit differently, despite her best intentions. Mainly, wherever it dropped was where it stayed. If she put things where they belonged, she wouldn’t spend a good portion of her time looking for things and wondering where they were. She certainly wouldn’t be digging through her purse looking for her keys.

Finally, she found them.

She met Noah’s eyes and smiled. What she saw there surprised her. She watched as his eyes grew even darker, but yet the half grin on his face made him look endearing, almost like a little boy who had been caught stealing cookies and was sheepishly trying to get out of it. She held her breath as his hand suddenly grazed over her cheek, slid down her shoulder, and briefly squeezed her hand.

Goodnight, Abby,” he said quietly and turned back toward his car. As he walked into the sunset, Abby watched his large body move, feeling stunned. Her cheek burned where he had touched her, and she found her heart beating a little faster. She reminded herself to breathe. She loved the way his shoulders seemed to roll with every step, the way his long, strong legs carried him with a lethal grace.

She shook her head and tried to bring herself around to reality. If he could make her feel like that with just a touch to the cheek, she couldn’t imagine what would happen if he kissed her.

{about the book}
Growing up in a small Northern Arizona town, Faith Cloudfoot’s life was spent playing in the forests surrounding her house under the protective eyes of her father, and learning about the legends of her Native American heritage. Yearning for more out of her life, she moves to Phoenix, Arizona at the age of twenty-three where she is kidnapped and almost killed.

Rayner has a special ability, one that weighs on him like a curse. He can see spirits trapped in between life and their final resting place. Because he can’t do much to help them, he studiously ignores them. He concentrates, instead, on working with his fellow warriors to right the wrongs caused by the evil criminals from his home planet.

When Rayner sees Faith in her spirit form while investigating a lead in Phoenix, his attraction to her is immediate, yet he follows his own personal code and ignores her cry for attention. When he realizes that she may be a stepping stone to getting him home to his own universe, he engages Faith and begins to use her as a means to an end: going home.

As the attraction grows stronger, Rayner finds himself breaking all sorts of self-set rules, as well as the code of ethics set by him and his fellow warriors. When Faith nears death, Rayner realizes that he must do everything in his power to save her, because if he doesn’t, he may just lose himself.

{excerpt}
Rayner knew what he was doing was wrong, but he simply couldn’t help himself.  He should have left the room a while back, but seeing Faith standing in the middle of the room in that little blue nightshirt and watching her get angry at him had jacked him up to levels he had never known before.  Holy Christ, he wanted her even more when she yelled at him, and when she had come at him with that little fist, oblivious to their size difference…it had sent him right to the edge.  He would have to explore the psychiatry of that later.  Right now, he was busy teetering on a very dangerous slope.  He just wanted Faith.  He didn’t care about consequences, what would happen later, or what would happen in three minutes.  He was only in the moment, and the moment consisted of Faith’s hand on his raging erection.

He wanted those lips, but he knew if he kissed her, he would be a goner.  A total goner.  Game over, hit the lights because his party would be over.  So he kissed her cheek, which was soft and warm and just a little damp from all those tears that had ripped at his heart.  He hadn’t meant to actually nip at her earlobe.

He needed to disengage and get away from her.

Instead he placed his hand at the nape of her neck and pulled her forward—the only thing separating them was their hands, her little fist wrapped in his big paw.

Rayner—”

Don’t say another word, Faith,” he whispered.  “Just don’t.”

He closed his eyes and brought a lock of her hair up to his nose, smelling the fresh mountain breeze scent he had come to associate with Faith.  His chest grew tight, his breathing became more labored as the silky strands whispered across his skin.  He wanted her with a ferocity that bordered on insanity.  What beat within him now was nothing but raw male need, all pretenses of manners and gentlemanly etiquette long gone.

When he felt her hand lay flat on his chest, and she turned her head and rested her cheek on his chest, he thought back to his dream and how good it felt to have Faith touch him, to be near her.  To have it happen in real life was a zillion and one times better than the dream.

I think I’m in love with you, Rayner,” she whispered.

He knew that from the ceremony to get her spirit back in her body.  It still shook him to his core to hear her say it.  His skin developed goose bumps; his knees went weak at her words.

You can’t love me, Faith,” he said into her hair.

It’s too late,” she breathed into his chest.  “Too late.”

He knew what he had to do.  He needed this to end, to come to a halt, a full stop with brakes screeching. He thought his heart might break, crack, or just fucking stop with his next words.  “But it’s not too late to let me go,” he whispered.  He let go of her neck and hand and stepped away.  He didn’t meet her eyes as he opened the door and stepped out.

{about the book}
Warrior Hudson from the Six Saviors seems to have it all – good looks, fine clothing, expensive jewelry and women just waiting for their turn to sleep with him.  But, what he safely keeps hidden from the world is the terrible pain he’s suffered for many years. As he fights his internal demons, he joins his fellow Warriors in waging war on the evil from their planet that has been let loose on Earth.

Beverly Devlone was a highly respected doctor, until tragedy hit her and a drug addiction destroyed her career and reputation. As a lonely woman fresh out of rehab, she’s now uncertain of her place in the world, what her purpose is, and where she belongs.

When an explosive event brings Hudson and Beverly together, the instant attraction between them cannot be ignored.  As the two grow closer and share secrets, they help each other heal from the shackles of their pasts.

But true happiness eludes them when they are forced to go their separate ways, until Beverly returns with an admission that will rock the very fabric of Hudson’s world.

{excerpt}
He gingerly lifted his torso off the bed to a sitting position and threw his legs over the side, letting out a few ripe curses and began to breathe heavily. Concentrating on staying horizontal, he didn’t hear Bev come into the room.

Hudson!” she said, rushing over to him. He looked up as she made her way from the bathroom to him, and he forgot about his pain for a moment. He actually forgot about everything, because he was simply struck stupid by what he was seeing.

Bev had wrapped her hair in a black towel, and his black silk robe was wrapped around her body. The damn thing swirled around her, far too big, but revealing enough to show the outline of taunt breasts and a small waist without much in the hips department. With every confident step she took, he thought he was going to get a glimpse of a thigh, but it never emerged. The black made her unmarked porcelain skin stand out. Her cheeks were pink from the heat of the shower. If he had thought she was pretty before…well, now she simply took his breath away.

Are you okay? Are you going to be sick again?”

She sat down next to him and put her hand on his back. It was cool on his skin, but it might as well have been a hot branding iron.

Their eyes locked.

Just like at the bar, her piercing green stare saw through the charade he had carefully constructed, and she knew the lies he had told.

He studied her face. Goddammit, she was what they described as a classic beauty. Smooth porcelain skin. High cheekbones. Full lips. There wasn’t a flaw anywhere on her face that he could see. She sat with her back ramrod straight, her shoulders pushed back, her chin lifted. He was reminded of pictures of royalty, except they all tended to look like they had a broomstick stuck up their asses and attached to their spines. For Beverly, the way she carried herself was natural.

Women like her had never held an interest for him. He always went for the ones with a bit of a hard edge. The party girls. Hell, he’d been with hookers many, many times. He had always felt that women like Beverly deserved more than he could offer. The others were simply looking for a body or to get paid. Of course, he would love nothing more than to have such a woman, but all he could give her would be a night of nothing but fucking, maybe some cuffs or a blindfold to fulfill an erotic fantasy. He didn’t have much else. Perhaps an omelet in the morning, but there wasn’t much more to the what-can-Hudson-give-a-woman list.

However, as Beverly stared him down, he felt the electric sexual attraction between them, a force onto itself. She wanted him, and he knew he wanted her as he speculated about what was going on in his boxers, which was pretty messed up considering he could barely move.

He thought about his bloody, swollen lip and how much he wanted to kiss her. Maybe, just maybe after Cohen got back, he would…

No, he didn’t want this.

But maybe he did.

But then her hand came up and gently touched the side of his face, her fingers tracing through his hair.

This was some kind of fucked-up spell. He actually wondered if she was a witch. Why couldn’t he look away? Why couldn’t he disengage from this…thing passing between them?

A loud knock on the door had her flying off the bed to the middle of the room, and he felt himself exhale. He took a deep breath and rubbed his hand over his face.
What?” he bit out.

{about the book}
There’s no doubt that Beverly has had her share of ups and downs. When we last left her in REBORN, she had told Hudson that she was pregnant with his child, he was happy about it, and they were about to be mated.

In Destiny’s Shift, we see Beverly and Hudson happy with their baby, but what happened in between those two books?

A lot.

This is Beverly’s journey into motherhood.

And it’s not an easy ride.

This book also answers the question that many readers emailed me about: What are they going to do with Beverly being fully human?

**Please note:  this is not a stand-alone book.  This is a novella that is to be read between REBORN and Destiny’s Shift.**

{excerpt}
A minute later, Beverly pushed, and Cohen lifted the baby from the water. Hudson felt like his chest would explode with pride, as he was the proud Papa of a baby boy who had a head full of black hair.

The baby began to cry softly, and the sound made Hudson feel like someone had just stabbed him through the heart. The sound was nothing like he had heard before. The wail sounded like hope, despair, and the need for love all rolled into one long syllable.

What’s wrong with him?” Hudson asked, panic lacing his gut.

Nothing, that’s good. They’re supposed to cry. You want to cut the cord?”

That would be a definite negative, a “hell no” of epic proportions, and Hudson shook his head.

Hudson stared at the crunched-up little face, the little mouth that formed an O. He briefly counted the baby’s fingers and toes, and was happy to see ten of each. The cry from the kid increased tenfold.

Oh, no,” Cohen said, his eyes on Beverly.

{about the book}
One hundred and fifty years ago, Warrior Jovan of the Six Saviors realized he had a gift: the ability to feel emotions through touch. Over the years, the gift has intensified allowing him to hear others thoughts, and this uncontrolled skill has forced him to keep his distance from both humans and those of his race. He fears the impact on his sanity if he doesn’t.

Liberty, an SR44 female has come to Earth by a set of circumstances beyond her control. Born into a life of servitude on SR44, she is alone, afraid, and stumbling her way through learning the customs and language of her new home on Earth. When Jovan meets Liberty, it becomes clear that they are of the same species, and Jovan takes Liberty under his wing, despite his commitment to himself to limit interaction with others.

As Liberty reveals the reasons for her coming to Earth, it becomes apparent that the Six Saviors are in danger, not only from the FBI, but also from those who have journeyed to Earth with Liberty, and they are seeking revenge. Jovan must quickly learn to control his gift, and Liberty is the only one who can help him. As they deal with danger from all sides, Jovan and Liberty must find a way to compromise on the lives they desire, or they will be forced to go their separate ways.

{excerpt}
Hearing a door behind him open, he turned. Liberty stood in his room having come through the bathroom.

It appears our rooms share a restroom, Jovan,” she said, smiling.

Jovan looked her over. She had on jeans that hugged her thin legs, a white turtleneck sweater, and a pair of high-heeled boots. Her ringlets framed her pretty face that lit up with her grin.

Don’t worry, though. I have learned the proper etiquette, thanks to you. I will make sure to knock before entering.”

He smiled. Yes, she had come a long way. No longer did she barge in the bathroom and catch him trying to get a little relief from his need to be with her.

As he stared at her, he knew he couldn’t fight it anymore. If Liberty would have him, he would take her. He knew he wouldn’t lose his SR44 form because she was one of his kind, and he wasn’t in love. He felt like an absolute cocksucker for taking her virginity, but if she was offering herself up . . .

He stood and went to her, stopping directly in front of her. She crossed her arms over her chest and lifted her gaze to his, tilting her head.

What is it, Jovan?”

Come here,” he whispered, and he took her in his arms. Her body was so small, he felt like she would break if he squeezed too hard. She laid her cheek on his chest, and her arms snaked around his waist.

Holding her close, he felt nothing at all, and it was a wonderful feeling. Well, he felt nothing but his cock getting hard. There were no emotions from her, no thoughts, no nothing.

He lifted her chin. “I can’t fight you anymore, Liberty.”

I wasn’t aware we were arguing, Jovan.”

What in the world was he about to do? “You’re driving me crazy, Liberty.”

I’m so sorry, Jovan. What have I done? And what can I do make amends with you?”
He smiled, while thinking of all the things she could do to make amends. “Well, you could start with letting me kiss you.”

Her breath hitched, and he watched shock march across her face. “Jovan, I don’t know what to say.”

How about yes?”

Yes,” she whispered.

{about the book}
SR44 is no more.”

With those words, Cohen of the Six Saviors feels like his whole world is unraveling at the seams. Consumed by sadness, anger, and guilt for breaking his mating vows to his beloved SR44ian mate, Cohen makes a sacrificial oath to honor her in death.
Annis, a female SR44 Warrior, was sent to Earth right before SR44 was destroyed. But her new human body has restrictions—during the day she is blind, but once the sun goes down, her vision returns. As she struggles to find her place among the Six Saviors, she finds herself the target for Cohen’s unwarranted anger. An explosive argument between them ensues, changing their relationship forever.

Blake, a half-human half-Colonist, has finally discovered a place he calls home. As he and Annis grow closer, his feelings for her can’t be ignored, and he must figure out a way to stay true to his heart or risk losing her forever.

As the Six Saviors are forced into the underbelly of humanity to catch a Colonist’s offspring, and danger from The Platoon threatens to rip the Six Saviors apart, Cohen, Annis, and Blake must face the ghosts of their pasts and try to sort out the tangled web of their lives.

Are you sure you’re going to be okay? You’re not going to do anything stupid, are you?”

Cohen stared at his fellow Warrior, Rayner, not really processing what he was saying. He was in a haze consisting of agony, disbelief, defeat, gut-wrenching guilt, and he had put a big, fat cherry on all that with some Captain Morgan, the rum of all rums.

He brought the glass to his lips, his hand shaking. He had to take a piss but didn’t know if his legs would carry his six-foot-four, two hundred fifty pound-frame. Instead, he shifted in his chair and ran his hand through his dark hair.

Finding out that your mate was dead could incapacitate a male.

Cohen looked over at the clock. It had been three hours, two minutes, and fifteen seconds since the news had been delivered, and the conversation kept replaying over and over in his mind.

SR44 is no more,” Liberty had said. “When we left, it seemed our world exploded from the inside, leaving nothing. It is gone.”
Gone.

His whole reason for existing had disappeared in one fiery, fuck-all explosion.

Cohen, I need you to talk to me, man.”

He lifted his violet eyes to Rayner’s red gaze and took another drink. What he really wanted was to be left the hell alone. There was only one way that was going to happen; he had to convince Rayner that although he was devastated, he wasn’t going to off himself.

I’m okay.”

And you’re not going to do anything stupid?”

Like what? Drink more rum?”

No, dumbass, like hurt yourself.”

Cohen threw his head back and laughed. It wasn’t the normal sound that came from his throat, but something that resembled a bullfrog choking on Skittles.

The so not ha-ha funny thing was that he could remove his heart with a butter knife and tweezers and it wouldn’t hurt as badly as what was rolling through him now.

What’s so funny?” Rayner asked.

Nothing, man, nothing. There’s not a fucking thing funny right now. Obscene, yes. Disorienting, sure. But funny? Nope.”

Rayner’s eyes narrowed on him. “Where are your guns?”

It was obvious Rayner thought Cohen had lost his jar of dice and would blow out his brains. The guy couldn’t have been more wrong. Cohen had no intention of killing himself; he had too much to atone for, and he needed to be very much alive to do that.

But, whatever. “In the closet. In my gun safe.”

Rayner got up and went to the closet.

You’re supposed to keep this thing locked,” Rayner said from inside.

He was supposed to do a lot of things. He was supposed to be concentrating on going home to SR44, to see his mate, Mia. He was supposed to honor his mating vows. Keeping his gun safe locked? Pretty far down on the list of important stuff he was supposed to do.

Rayner came out of the closet with a loaded-down black duffle bag.

You sure you’re going to be okay, Cohen?”

No. Things would never be okay again. He was an SR44 male without his mate. Things were going to be one large pile of smelly crap for the rest of his days.

Yes. Now go see Faith and leave me alone.”

Rayner stared at him a minute longer, his red eyes piercing him, then headed for the door. Cohen listened as the elevator dinged, announcing its arrival. When he heard the hum of the elevator taking Rayner away, he felt all his emotions—the guilt, the agony, the sheer disbelief that Mia was gone—swelling together, fueling the screams and cries of pain that emanated from his lips.

After a few moments, he was hoarse, and he wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.

He should have honored his mating vows to Mia, but instead he had been whoring around on Earth for the past seventy-five years of the two hundred twelve years he had been on this rock. His betrayal to her ran deep, and he needed to atone for his sins.

Oh, and sinned he had.
