Special Christmas Moments

Christmas time really brings back special memories. It's my most favorite holiday and one of the reasons is all the wonderful times I had as a child. Those memories will be with me forever. Remembering the times my family came together to celebrate Christmas at my Granny's, eating delicious meals, and exchanging presents. There were lots of laughs and a feeling of love that I can't fully explain. I also remember the excitement of watching A Charlie Brown Christmas and eating popcorn. Staying up late to watch it was also a treat. My kids have a very strict bedtime of 7pm. Every night. Yes, I'm a meanie. But I've been a little more relaxed about it now that all the wonderful Christmas shows are on. The kids think I'm awesome.

Below a friend of mine, Amanda from 3lilapples, tells about the Christmas moments she had that warm her heart.
Looking back on the memories of Christmas past, and the times shared with those I love. The most memorable past time of mine was to visit the local theater, not to see a movie, but to watch a performance. Making it a memorable event we would most often wear a green or red dress which was embellished with plenty of lace, and maybe an exceptionally large bow or two.
The first performance, most watched, and often made a holiday outing by my mother to whom we also attended with my aunt and cousins. The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A Hoffmann, which tells a fanciful story of a girl and her fondness to one particular toy, a nutcracker. In reality the nutcracker is a cursed prince, who is wished to be ugly. The ballet, The Nutcracker, is an adaptation of this book where music, set decorations, props, and dancers take you to magical Land of Sweets. What kid would not enjoy this performance, as though it is a musical staged performance of the game Candy Land, minus the rainbow path and licorice lagoon? Plus, every girl wants to be a ballerina.
The second performance, also a stage performance, most often modified for film which is my primary source for viewing A Christmas Carol. Although I have seen this on film, I have also seen it with live actors on stage; I believe it to be more genuine and a memorable experience. The story of A Christmas Carol is one that many have heard of, even the Muppets, there are many versions of this story, but each tells the same story. One man’s, Ebenezer Scrooge, journey through one night with many spirits, a process of reclaiming his own faith in the meaning of Christmas.
These two stories are the ones which get me into the Christmas spirit, both then and now, whether by reading them, or watching them either on stage or on screen. I encourage you to share these same stories with your children if you don’t already, and if you can take them to see the story live on stage. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday season to you, and your family.

What were some of your Christmas traditions or special moments that you still remember fondly and try to pass along to your children?

Paper Culture Christmas Cards {review}

It's that time again. The holiday season of 2012 has arrived! Thanksgiving will be in 2 days and then very soon Christmas!!!

It's the most magical time of the year. Not to be confused with Disney World which is suppose to be the most magical place on Earth. I dunno, I haven't been to Disney World but I don't think anything can top Christmas! Seriously, it's wonderful. I've already got my house decorated. Except for the tree, the tree (fake) is up but not decorated because my wonderful little girl decided instead of being with mommy, daddy, and bubby during her week break off from school....she's at my mom's. Getting more spoiled by the day. Whateve. ;)

Anyways, as I was saying it's soon to be Christmas and I've been getting ready. The house is done....and now I need to send out Christmas cards. Which I totally have already thanks to Paper Culture.

Paper Culture is an awesome website that offers modern designs on eco friendly paper. They have cards for everything! I have to tell you it was hard choosing which card I wanted this year. There were so many beautiful designs. I finally picked one that I thought was cute and cheerful. What do you think?
I loved it. :) I received my cards about 4 days after I ordered them. It was so fast! The cards are of good heavy quality and the color is beautiful. I am so pleased with the cards this year. I will probably keep one for myself and put it back for a keepsake.

Here is some feedback from some people you may have heard of before that have used Paper Culture.

Courting Cate ~ Book Review & Enter to WIN a Kindle Fire

Courting Cate
When This Couple Gets to Courting, Sparks Will Fly!
In Paradise, Pennsylvania, Cate Miller is known more for her sharp tongue and fiery temper than her striking appearance. Her sweet and flirty sister, Betsy, on the other hand, seems to have attracted most of the bachelors in Lancaster County!
But the sisters’ wealthy father has made one hard-and-fast rule: older Cate must marry first, before younger Betsy can even start courting. Unfortunately, untamable Cate has driven away every suitor–until Pete Treger comes to town, that is.
Prodded by the men of the area, Pete turns his attention to winning Cate’s hand. But is his interest true or is there a scheme at play?
Book 1 in The Courtships of Lancaster County series.

Leslie Gould is the co-author, with Mindy Starns Clark, of the #1 bestselling The Amish Midwife and The Amish Nanny. She is also the author of numerous novels, including Garden of Dreams, Beyond the Blue (winner of the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice for Best Inspirational Novel, 2006), and Scrap Everything. As you all know I love Amish stories. And I love a spunky woman. This book has both! I can not tell you how many times I found myself laughing out loud and also crying. Leslie Gould created an amazing story with lovable, relate-able characters.

This is a story of a young woman who has been burned by love and continues to let pride get in the way of her not only forgiving but also of loving someone else. If you think about it, this is something we've all done but poor Cate takes it a step further. She buries herself in books and won't let anyone hurt her.

I loved this book and I really think if you like to read Amish fiction you should try it. You'll find yourself rooting for Cate and hoping for a happy ending!

Get unjunked with UNREAL candies!!

A couple of weeks ago I had a party. An "unjunked" UNREAL party. I was getting to introduce a new type of candy to a group of friends. I can't tell you how excited I was!

Have you tried these new candies that have pretty much redefined what candy can be? It's called UNREAL and it is AWESOME!! Oh my gosh, I am totally addicted to the Chocolate Peanut Caramel Nougat bar. And the best part is I don't have to feel guilty eating it!
UNREAL has a mission - they want to "unjunk" the world and they are doing that by starting with candy.

Most candies are full of hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, corn syrup, synthetic colors, and GMOs. Not UNREAL candy! UNREAL has all the good stuff in it - like cacao (cocoa), more milk, more peanuts, cane sugar, and organic palm fruit oil. UNREAL candies have 30% less sugar, 60% more fiber, and 250% more protein!

Just look at this chart below and you can see all the amazing nutritional facts. It's hard to believe that a candy this good (and yes it IS that good) and not be bad for you!

UNREAL candies include:

  • Peanut Butter Cups
  • Candy Coated Chocolates
  • Candy Coated Chocolates w/ Peanuts
  • Chocolate Caramel Nougat Bar
  • Chocolate Peanut Caramel Nougat Bar

Each of these candies are delicious and rival the name brands they are patterned after. I admit I was a little hesitant to try them because normally healthier food just doesn't measure up...but I am so glad I was wrong. Even my husband, who is super picky when it comes to chocolate, said "We need to get some more of that stuff!"

Here are a few of the other things that have been said about UNREAL during the party.

"Are you serious..this has less sugar? It sure doesn't taste like it. It tastes normal."

"This is the best tasting candy. I can't believe it's better for me."

"Oh my goodness. I'm never going to eat another brand again."

" Hand me another one of those."

I loved that I could share all these wonderful tasting candies with friends. I know that they enjoyed it as well. I mean, this candy is amazing in the fact that it isn't as bad for you, it is tasty, and it can be found in stores that you would normally shop at like Kroger, CVS, and Staples. You don't have to go to a health food store to get it.

My kids love candy and they are quite picky (for kids) as to what they will eat. And they loved it. I couldn't give Gracie the Candy Coated Chocolate w/ Peanuts, the Peanut Butter Cups, or the Chocolate Peanut Caramel Nougat bars because of her nut allergy but she really liked the Candy Coated Chocolates. I know those were her faves. And Matthew, sweet, sweet chunker Matthew....he ate it all and I had to hide it from him. :)

Overall, my family and friends thought it was great.

If you've tried it....what do you think? Or if you haven't, do you think this is something you'd be interested in?

*Disclosure: I was provided samples free for review and for the party by UNREAL and Global Influence Network. All opinions are my own and were in no way influenced.*

#ShapelyGirl Fitness Wrap Up

So the month long fitness quest is over. What can I say? It was an experience! Not a bad one either. :)

I really enjoyed being a part of this great group of women. We had so much support among ourselves and from ShapelyGirl Fitness' creator, Deborah Mazda. I didn't post in the Facebook group very often but I read each post and I knew that these ladies were going through exactly what I was.

ShapelyGirl Fitness was designed by Deborah as a way for women of all sizes to learn how to get up and get moving. She wants everyone to know how to be fit regardless of size. Usually plus-size and overweight women do not try to do workouts because they can be extremely taxing. ShapelyGirl Fitness allows  women of all shapes and sizes to get up and move! By moving more women can lose weight and feel better about themselves!

It's so hard deciding to make a commitment to change your lifestyle in any way. When it comes to learning to how be healthy and eat better, after you've done the opposite for such a long time it's hard to do. You need to be committed and have a great support system to help you through those hard moments.

I won't say that I did great at this challenge, but I will say I did pretty darn good. My goal when starting this was that I was going to learn to eat healthier and I was going to use my ShapelyGirl Fitness dvd, Walking Fit and Fabulous, at least 3 times a week.

Now I will admit I I had my moments where I just didn't feel like doing it. Sadly that was a little more often than it should have been. BUT I did finish with a bang and am pretty proud of myself.

I finally got back on the scales and I had lost a total of 6 pounds. I also have been doing a lot better at eating less junk foods and drinking less pop. I still really like pop but I am trying to drink more water and flavored water.

Overall, I did workout and I am eating better AND most importantly I feel better about myself.

I am so glad I was able to do this and participate with these great ladies. Remember it just takes one step at a time and you can achieve any goal that you want.

CSI: Miami Heat Wave Game Review #CleverCSI

As a lot of you know I am a big online gamer. Facebook games are a big addiction of mine. I play all kinds of games like Battle Pirates to Tail Towns Friends...and now I have found CSI: Miami Heat Wave.

Oh my sweet gracious. It is SO much fun. I can't stop playing it.

If you like the television show CSI: Miami and solving mysteries you will LOVE this game. It is so awesome. Seriously! Best of all it is FREE to play. As like most other games you have pay options but it's not necessary. You can have as much fun playing without paying out any cash.

CSI: Miami Heat Wave has all of your favorite characters from the show; like Horatio Caine, along with Detectives Eric, Calleigh, & Ryan. First you create your own character. which you customize by changing it's physical appearance and clothing. You, of course, are a rookie investigator and are put through the paces of solving crimes. As you solve each crime you are rewarded with money and items you will use during the game.

Each new quest begins with a short animated crime. From there you have to investigate the crime area, process the evidence and then question the suspects. It is so real to the show, it's amazing! Horatio gives you a case to solve, Detectives Eric & Ryan assist you in searching the crime scene(s) and Calleigh processes the evidence. You move from the crime scene to the CSI lab.

Here are some screen shots I took of the game while I was playing.

Here I am searching the crime scene.
Collecting resources I'll need in the CSI lab.
Calleigh processed the evidence. Now I have to examine it.
Questioning the suspect.
The game is really easy to play and it's FUN! I can't say that enough. :)

If you think you would like to play this game just click here and be prepared for lots of gaming fun!

I Touch My Boobs

I bet that title got your attention, didn't it? Good. I wanted it to. This is some serious stuff.

We all hear about October being Breast Cancer Awareness month but do we take the time really think about it? What it means to us as women. How serious this can be? You know when we were kids we always thought when something bad happened that it couldn't happen to us. And if you're still think the same thing. Well, I'm here to tell you it can happen to you. It'll turn your world upside down.

Mom is such a fighter!
In 2008, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 64 years old when she found the lump. We watched her go through chemo, radiation, and surgery. She lost her hair. She was so sick. And it was scary. Here we are dealing with a disease that kills. I wasn't ready to lose my mommy. You learn to pray a lot and pray hard. Thankfully, she is okay. She was able to beat this and has been cancer free for 3 years now.

Some aren't so lucky ... like my friend Ashley.

Ashley - 1st chemo treatment
- just look at the beautiful smile!
Ashley was 30 years old when she was first diagnosed. She had 2 sons and an amazing husband. She fought with everything in her to try to conquer this evil disease. And she couldn't. Chemo, radiation and it still spread to her spinal cord and brain and in March 2011 Heaven got an angel. Ashley hated the thought of leaving her family behind. She wanted to grow old with her husband and watch her kids grow up, marry and give her grandkids. God had other plans for her and we have to accept that. She had. Ashley told me, "I have to admit I am scared to death, but I know God hasn't been moved off the throne so even if everything is not alright now no matter the outcome things will be ok". I know we will see her again one day and that's how one gets through each day without her.

If Ashley were here today, she would tell you to not be stupid (because Ashley wasn't shy - she told you how it was) and that you needed to do self breast exams. And if you even think that you feel something, anything - go to the doctor. Don't wait. Call right away.

I know it's scary. I'm so paranoid. The thought of going through what these two women went through terrifies me. I don't know if I could do it with the grace that they did. I also don't want to not do anything and then have my kids grow up knowing I didn't fight to stay around for them.

I am begging you to please do self-breast exams and have mammograms. This is a matter of life and death.

To learn how to do a self-check go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation website . Do this once a month (at least) in the shower or when laying in bed at night. Mark it on your calendar. Just do it!
