ChunkyBling.com has some very unique items like their interchangeable charm necklaces and interchangeable beaded watches. But that's not all they also have rings and bracelets. You're probably thinking that like most jewelry stores the prices are outrageous. They aren't...they are GREAT!! The rings are just $5!!

Meet the New Rainbow Brite & CD Giveaway (5 winners)

Sheeeeee's back!!

Rainbow Brite has an updated look (which I'm still struggling with ~ I don't handle change very well). I think she's cute....she's just not my Rainbow Brite. This new one will be my daughter's. Which is ok. :)

The History of Rainbow Brite
Rainbow Brite has delighted generations of children with her exciting and imaginative adventures. Among adults who grew up with the original cartoons and dolls, Rainbow Brite has a significant following as a nostalgic property…but her unique brand of sweetly futuristic fantasy – and her sincere message of courage, kindness and hope – make her a true 21st century hero.

When Hallmark first introduced the Rainbow Brite brand about 25 years ago, girls all over the world fell in love with this colorful character. Rainbow Brite was launched with a consumer products program that included toys, books, comic books, cereal, party goods and even a traveling stage show. Girls enjoyed Rainbow Brite as a TV series, in addition to three TV specials and a feature film.

Your kids will love the new Rainbow Brite website, which features animated videos, a contemporary theme song, coloring pages, wallpapers, games and more! And luckily for you, all of these activities are free!

Watch out for Rainbow Brite, her two loyal friends Moonglow and Tickled Pink, and their companion horse friends: Starlite, Shimmer and Sunriser to hit Target & Toys R' Us this month.

Just recently I received a Rainbow Brite CD pack from MomSelect & Hallmark. It contained games and activities. And it was so much fun!! Grace really had fun playing them.

And I'm giving 5 lucky readers the chance to win their very own Rainbow Brite CD packed full of fun for the kiddies.

All you need to do is leave me a comment telling me what your favorite memory of Rainbow Brite is or what you like best about this new Rainbow Brite.

For extra entries you can do the following and leave a comment for each.

* Tweet about it @lesleypeck using hashtag #rainbowbrite

* Follow my blog using Google Follower

* Subscribe to receive updates via email

* Add my button to your sidebar

* Follow me on Facebook

* Blog about it (5 extra entries)

Giveaway will end February 28th at 11:59 PM EST. Winner will be chosen using Random.org.

Review: Molly Makes $7 Slow-Cooker Suppers

Do ya'll use your crock pot?

I really don't. I mean I have been trying to lately. I've asked everybody I know for recipes and I've received a few. Then I Googled it and of course found lots of recipes but how do I know if they taste ok? I don't want to waste my time or money on something that's going to be icky.

Well now my problem is solved!!

Molly Makes $7 Slow-Cooker Suppers

This e-book contains 140 recipes that cost under $7 to make. 140 recipes that have went through a kitchen-prep and taste test by an unbiased party (27 busy moms just like you) and includes the tester's comments, suggestions, and optional ideas. And you get pictures for at least half the recipes!

I can't wait to start cooking up a storm in my crock pot! Some of these made my mouth water just looking at the pic. :)

You can get a copy of this for only $7.95 at TOS Schoolhouse Store.

And don't forget to check out more of Molly's Money Saving Digests and her website, Econobusters for more ways to be frugal.

Week Two: General Hospital

So this week on GH Sonny’s murder trial begins!

Michael is tormented when his father, Sonny, takes the fall for him. He wants to take responsibility. And then we have Dante who is called to stand to testify against his father. Can you imagine the torment they are all going through?

This is a great story line that will naturally generate controversy. There are so many ways this could turn out!!

What do you think is going to happen when it all starts to unfold?

Personally, I think that Dante will find out that Michael did it and then do something to get both Sonny and Michael off the hook. But what will he lose in the process? I mean Lulu is upset with Sonny already. Can she look past Dante sticking up for his father?

It's just now getting good!

Did you sign up to win a walk on role on GH yet? If not hurry up you only have until February 28th! Go here to enter.

Week Two: The View

This week on The View you can find an exciting line-up of guests.

* Tuesday, Feb 23: The controversial cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore will be joining the Women live on Tuesday. This will be an interesting show to see how the cast and the women interact! I've watched a few episodes of Jersey Shore and WHOA BOY!! those folks are crazy!!

* Wednesday, Feb 24:
Nadya Suleman who famously gave birth to octuplets last year will be making her first trip to NYC to chat live with the Women of the View. Author Danielle Steel will also be a guest. I personally can't stand the Octomom, so I will not be watching that segment. But I'll definitely watch Danielle Steel. I've read just about every book she's ever written. When I started reading romances I read hers first because my Grandma loved her. :)

* Thursday, Feb 25:
A one hour show Themed “trying to have a baby?” Guests include Giuliana And Bill Rancic. This should be a must see for all you women out there trying to conceive.

* Friday, Feb 26:

Christina's World

This painting has been in my head ever since I first saw it in art class when I was in middle school. I couldn't remember anything about it. The picture was just there...I could see it as plain as if it was in the room with me. That really got on my nerves. That I couldn't remember anything else. So I finally Goggled it. Don't ask why it took me so long. Maybe I just like torturing myself. Ummm, no, not really. Just forgetful at times. :)

Anyways this is what Wikipedia had to say about it...
Christina's World is a work by U.S. painter Andrew Wyeth, and one of the best-known American paintings of the middle 20th century. It depicts a seemingly young woman lying on the ground in a treeless, mostly tawny field, looking up at and crawling towards a gray house on the horizon; a barn and various other small outbuildings are adjacent to the house.

So why did he paint this particular picture? What's the meaning behind it? Wikipedia answered that one for me too.

The woman of the painting is Christina Olson (May 3, 1893 - January 27, 1968). She had an undiagnosed muscular deterioration that paralyzed her lower body. Wyeth was inspired to create the painting when through a window from within the house he saw her crawling across a field. Wyeth had a summer home in the area and was on friendly terms with Olson, using her and her younger brother as the subject of paintings from 1940 to 1968. Although Olson was the inspiration and subject of the painting, she was not the primary model — Wyeth's wife Betsy posed as the torso of the painting. Although the woman in the painting appears young, Olson was 55 at the time Wyeth created the work.

The house depicted in the painting is known as the Olson House, and is located in Cushing, Maine. It is open to the public as a part of the Farnsworth Museum complex; it is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, and has been restored to match its appearance in the painting.[citation needed] In the painting, Wyeth separated the house from its barn and changed the lay of the land.

Painted in 1948, this tempera work, done in a realist style, is currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as a part of their permanent collection.

I had romanticized the picture by making up my own story about the girl in the artwork. I had decided that she was upset and feeling lost. Pining away for a lost love. Aching for that person to come and rescue her. I read too many romances, huh?

But really I think the true story behind the painting (now that I know it) is far better. It's quite sad that she had the disease she did. But it shows courage and perseverance. She made the decision that she was not going to stay inside all day just because she had a disability. She would be out in the world and work with what God had given her. Very strong woman indeed.

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Has there ever been a piece of artwork that has touched you in such a way? One you just couldn't stop thinking about? Tell me your story.

Book Review: Beneath a Southern Sky

Summary:
Her Second Husband Healed the Sorrow of a Tragic Loss.
Her First Has Just Returned from the Dead.
Which Man Has the Right to Claim Daria’s Heart?

After two years of serving as a missionary in a remote area of South America, Daria Camfield has returned to the States to mourn her husband, reportedly killed while providing medical aid to a neighboring Colombian village.

One family discovers how God can redeem any tragedy.

At first, Daria finds comfort only in the daughter born to her after Nate’s tragic death. As she begins to heal, she also finds a listening ear and a tender heart in her new boss, veterinarian Colson Hunter. Determined to move forward with life, Daria ignores the still small voice calling her to wait and accepts Cole’s marriage proposal. But after the wedding, Daria’s new dream life turns into a nightmare with the arrival of an unbelievable telegram: “Nathan Camfield found alive. Flying into K.C. Int’l. via Bogota…”

Now two men have the right to her daughter, her life, and her love. Will Daria return to her beloved first husband, abandoning Cole? Or will she reject Nate and choose the only man her daughter has ever called “Daddy”--a man she has come to cherish with all her heart?

Oh my gosh.

Can you even imagine?

This book knocked me to the floor. I mean think about losing the love of your life and then trying to move on, finally doing so and then you find out your first husband is still alive? I think I'd totally lose it.

I read this book in one sitting. It captivated me. I laughed and cried and when I was finished I felt satisfied yet sad. I loved how the author brought you into the story. You just feel like you're there and you feel the characters pain. It's an excellent Christian novel that shows how God can help someone over a tragedy.

You can get a copy here.

Reading with Your Children

I got an email this morning that made me think about my children and the books that I read to them. And how they've grown because of it.

Mother's Click has an article on their website that lists 5 classic books every family should own. Sadly, we don't have any of them. Yikes! Am I a bad mommy? We do however have 2 bookcases full of books, along with a very large tote.

From the time Gracie was able to hold her head up we've read. I would read her the same board books over and over again. She chewed on them. They were loved. I think this is what helped her to start talking and have a large vocabulary at such a young age. And now since she's learning to read by herself she has really taken off and just amazed me at how fast she's picked it up.

Now Matthew is a different story. He will not sit still long enough for us to get through a book. He will take it a flip through the pages and occasionally point to pictures. He's too busy being busy. Getting into everything! He's only 18 months and I try really hard not to compare the two at this age...but then I start to wonder if I have somehow failed him. He doesn't talk that much. Only a handful of words that you can really clearly understand. But of course there is his body language in which he makes sure we know what he's talking about. Now in saying this I am not in anyway saying he isn't smart. Because he is in so many different ways. This child has so much charm, it's scary.

I know that they are different kids and they are going to grow and learn at different rates. Boys and girls are different even from birth ~ and I don't just mean anatomically. :) The differences in their personalities are amazing.

For those of you with multiple children, what are some of the differences you've noticed as they grew and learned new things?

Living the Good Life — Frugally

It's possible you know. To have a good life without spending tons of money on things. I know you've heard the saying "The best things in life are free". I firmly believe this and February's issue of Molly's Money Saving Digest: Living the Good Life - Frugally focuses on just that.

Ways to redecorate, how to repurpose items to spruce up your house during the winter months. I tell you we've had over 100 inches of snow this year here...and you just don't get out and go. So when you're stuck inside for this long the walls start to close in...and you notice every little thing. Not always a good thing. ;) Of course we don't want to spend lots of money and we don't have to. Molly gives you a few tips on how to make your home a happier place during these blah days, including some tips for keeping the kids busy when cabin fever hits.

As always, there are more forms for you to use to get better organized. I am so bad about forgetting birthdays, so the monthly reminder list is going to help ALOT! There is also a gift closet organizer. Preparing for events will definitely save you $$.

There are also many great articles like 45 ways to say I love you, a week's worth of dinners, some very tasty potato recipes. So far I have to say I'm thinking this is my favorite Money Saving Digest yet...well until next months. They just keep getting better.

Book Review: Hear No Evil

Summary:
A collection of wise, compelling, and often uproariously funny essays built around the experience of music as a transformational element in a moment of truth, Hear No Evil mines Matthew Paul Turner’s humorous memories of his evangelical youth and invites readers to groove along on his journey.

From attending forbidden contemporary Christian concerts to moving to “Music City” Nashville, Hear No Evil chronicles Turner’s “life soundtrack” which morphs seamlessly into the stories of people, places, and experiences that have taught the music-editor-turned-author some new things about God, forced him out of his comfort zone, and introduced him to a fresh view of grace along the way.

If you’ve ever had the opening bars of a song transport you back in time or remind you of a pivotal spiritual moment, Matthew Paul Turner’s honest—and frequently hilarious—musings will strike a chord. Straight forward and amusing, Hear No Evil is an exploration of a life of faith lived to a personal soundtrack.

Ok, so we all know that music can take us back to a moment. I think that's what is so great about it. You hear a song and suddenly you're transported back in time. Music has an impact on everyone. It's universal. Don't you think? I absolutely love how Matthew Paul Turner describes his love of music and how it helped him grow in his faith.

I laughed so hard so many times while reading Hear No Evil. I can't even tell you. I tried to explain it to my mom and I know it just fell short of what I felt. I told her she'd have to read it for herself. I kept thinking back to when I was a kid. The stereotypes of religions in this book...I remember hearing lots of them. It's funny in a sad sorta way. Anyways, this is a really great book that makes you think about yourself, your faith, and how you allow yourself to portray it.

If you think it's something you'd like to read, you can purchase a copy here.

Week One: General Hospital

Ok, so in my last post you might have read about me becoming a The View Brand Ambassador.

Well...this is even better!

General Hospital Brand Ambassador!!

Oh my word. *sigh*

I was raised watching soap operas. Sitting in my Granny's living room watching the CBS soaps like Young and the Restless, Capitol (see I told you I've watched them for awhile ~ this show has been off air forever!), ATWT, and Guiding Light. Now my other Grandma watched the NBC soaps ~ Days of Our Lives, Another World...

So, how in the world did I become a fan of ABC soaps, you ask? I have no clue! It was sometime during the summer when I was in middle school. I fell in love with some of the characters.

The storyline I most remember is when Robin started dating Stone. It was just a really great love story. I remember crying so hard when Stone died. I have the book Robin's Diary, and every time I read it I cry like it's the first time.

Ever since then I've been an avid GH fan.

Do you watch any soaps? I know lots of people look down on them. I really don't know why. I just think of it as any other tv show ~ just better! HA!

Right now, Mom Central, is having a contest for one lucky winner to win a walk-on role onto GH. Isn't that cool? Can you just imagine being in the same area as Maurice Bernard (Sonny) or Steve Burton (Jason)? Oh, I might just have a heart attack! :)

To enter you can go here. You have until February 28th.

*Disclaimer: I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other General Hospital branded items to facilitate my review.*

I like Elisabeth. She's a fiesty one. No punches pulled there. And I have to say since Whoopi has been on The View it's just gotten better. &hearts it!

Now the first thing I get to share with ya'll is the exciting The View sweepstakes that’s currently being run on Mom Central's website.

The washer detergent I used when I had washed some of Matthew's bedding and it had come out with some stain on it. I have no clue what it was, but it looked like something similar to rust. Book Review: Love & War

When you got married what did you expect your marriage to be like? Did you have parents who were good role models or did you go into disillusioned? I think many of us thought our marriage was going to be easy, and we'd never fight and nothing bad was ever going to happen. And then reality hit and we thought "What in the world did I get myself into?"

Marriage is tough. You have to constantly work at it. But it is worth it!

Love & War is written by John & Stasi Eldredge. They have been where you are and they wrote this book in the hopes that it'll help you and your spouse grow closer. That you will have the marriage that you want.

About this book...

What the Eldredge bestsellers Wild at Heart did for men, and Captivating did for women, LOVE & WAR will do for married couples everywhere. John and Stasi Eldredge have contributed the quintessential works on Christian spirituality through the experience of men and the experience of women and now they turn their focus to the incredible dynamic between those two forces.

With refreshing openness that will grab readers from the first page, the Eldredges candidly discuss their own marriage and the insights they’ve gained from the challenges they faced. Each talks independently to the reader about what they’ve learned, giving their guidance personal immediacy and a balance between the male and female perspectives that has been absent from all previous books on this topic. They begin LOVE & WAR with an obvious but necessary acknowledgement: Marriage is fabulously hard. They advise that the sooner we get the shame and confusion off our backs, the sooner we'll find our way through.

LOVE & WAR shows couples how to fight for their love and happiness, calling men and women to step into the great adventure God has waiting for them together. Walking alongside John and Stasi Eldredge, every couple can discover how their individual journeys are growing into a story of meaning much greater than anything they could do or be on their own.

While reading this book, I was amazed at how closely I related to quite a few of the dilemmas that this couple faced. My marriage has suffered many trials in the past few years. I've doubted if it was truly meant to be. But trying to remember what brought us together in the first place and turning it over to God helped a lot. I feel so blessed to have been given the chance to read this book. I know that it's one I'll go back to again and again searching for ways to improve my marriage.

You can purchase a copy for yourself here.

Another Valentine's Day Giveaway...by Dixie Cajuns' Creations!

Yep, that's right another Valentine's Day Giveaway!! I am so happy to be able to offer this one to you all. Dixie Cajuns' Creations is a fairly new site to get adorable handmade aprons and dolls. It's owned and operated by Mrs. Josephine Lirette, who is just the sweetest lady you could ever meet.

A lot of little things...made with a lot of love

Dixie Cajuns' Creations carries aprons for both mothers and daughters and they are just the best. Also you can purchase dolls that wear similar fabrics. I am so in love with this stuff!

Mrs. Lirette has offered up a daughter's apron called Little Alice to ONE lucky reader.

The winner will get to choose what size; Small (3-4), Medium (5-6), or Large (7-8).

Wouldn't your little girl look so cute helping out mama in the kitchen while wearing this? :)

To enter to win, go to Dixie Cajuns' Creations and tell me what you like from the store.

For additional entries you can do the following. Just remember to leave a comment for each one.

* Tweet about it @lesleypeck

* Follow my blog using Google Follower

* Subscribe to receive updates via email

* Follow me on Facebook

* Follow Dixie Cajuns' Creations on Facebook

Contest will end Saturday February 13th @ 11:59 EST. Winner will be chosen using Random.org.
