Thankful for My Blessings ~ Day 30

Today I'm thankful for .... EVERYTHING!

I really have a very blessed life. I have a husband who loves me, two beautiful (somewhat healthy :S) babies, wonderful parents and siblings, terrific friends (online and IRL). I have everything I need. I'm learning that no matter what life throws me I can handle it. I'm much stronger than I though. As long as I have God and my family ~ my life will always be perfect.

Thankful for My Blessings ~ Day 28

Today I'm thankful for doctors. Even though I question diagnoses and sometimes talk trash. I am so grateful that I am able to take my kids to the doctor whenever they are sick and get them the care they need. Matthew has been fighting a cough since I first mentioned he was sick. I took him to his regular doctor and he said to just give him cough syrup and that should clear it up. Well, it seemed as if it was going away and then BOOM! it was back with a vengeance and a wheeze. I took him today to an express care place and the physician's assistant diagnosed him with an ear infection. He said most likely it was an upper respiratory infection that had gone untreated...ummm, I had him to the doc! Anyways, we have antibiotics and I'm hoping it will clear it all up. Prayers are always welcome. :)

What are Your 5 Favorite Holiday Activities to do with Your Kids?

With Christmas fast approaching it's a great time to spend with your children. There are lots of activities you can do with the kids around this time of year. Here are five of our faves.

1. We love to do crafts around the holiday season. Santa faces on paper plates and cotton balls are a big hit. :) Can't think of any? Just Google 'kids Christmas crafts' - you'll be overloaded.

2. Baking Christmas cookies and decorating cake be lots of fun...and sometimes quite messy. But what's a little mess when you're having a good time.

3. Making salt ornaments. These are easy to make and are great presents from the kids.

4. Reading. We read a lot year round but now it's fun to read all the Christmas stories...and of course retell the story of Baby Jesus.

5. Watch Christmas shows. Each year we eagerly anticipate A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The classics. But then they add new ones and we enjoy those also. This year we want to watch Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure which premieres on Nickelodeon on 12/6 @ 8PM EST and Santa Buddies, which comes out on DVD today.

What do you like to do with your children to celebrate the holidays? Want to hear what other families do? Check out TwitterMoms discussion on holiday activities.

Review & Giveaway: Kiss Me Again

Many married women genuinely want to feel more desire toward their husbands. But while sex before marriage was hard to resist, now resisting seems like all they do. In her new book, Barbara Wilson shows how couples can suffer for years from the “invisible bonds” of previous relationships without even knowing it. Hidden emotions of distrust, shame, and resentment can sabotage even the most loving marriage.

In Kiss Me Again, Wilson:
· Shares her own story of healing and renewed desire

· Helps women forgive themselves and their husbands for past choices

· Shows readers how to break free from “invisible bonds”

· Explains God’s plan for helping a husband and wife to re-bond

· Includes conversation helps for both wives and their husbands

· Helps couples reignite the passion that they thought was lost

With assessment tools, write-in exercises, and gentle guidance, Kiss Me Again offers a biblical plan for rekindling the closeness and passion women long for in marriage. Because no past is beyond the reach of God’s healing touch.

I think we all want to be close with our spouse. But sometimes it's easier said than done. Kiss Me Again is a wonderful resource that allows us to look into ourselves and if needed change our ways to help us overcome the obstacles that prevent us from connecting with our loved one. Even if you don't have problems with intimacy in your marriage, I would recommend this book. I think that no matter how close we feel or how perfect we think our relationship is ~ that it can always be better.

Think this is a book you could use? I would love to help one of my readers out! I'm going to giveaway ONE copy toone of you! All I ask that you do is leave a comment below telling me why you think you need this book. I'll pick a winner December 5th @ 11:59PM EST using Random.org.

Review: White Picket Fences

Amanda Janvier’s idyllic home seems the perfect place for her niece Tally to stay while her vagabond brother is in Europe, but the white picket fence life Amanda wants to provide is a mere illusion. Amanda’s husband Neil refuses to admit their teenage son Chase, is haunted by the horrific fire he survived when he was four, and their marriage is crumbling while each looks the other way.

Tally and Chase bond as they interview two Holocaust survivors for a sociology project, and become startlingly aware that the whole family is grappling with hidden secrets, with the echoes of the past, and with the realization that ignoring tragic situations won’t make them go away.

Readers of emotional dramas that are willing to explore the lies that families tell each other for protection and comfort will love White Picket Fences. The novel is ideal for those who appreciate exploring questions like: what type of honesty do children need from their parents, or how can one move beyond a past that isn’t acknowledged or understood? Is there hope and forgiveness for the tragedies of our past and a way to abundant grace?

This book was AMAZING! I loved it. Some of my favorite books are family dramas and I really enjoy history. Let me tell you this book has it all! This is a great book that really makes you question just how secrets effect people. What lies beyond that idyllic white picket fence? I also loved how this was a very Christ oriented book. Throughout the story, the characters are asked to put their faith in God. Can they give up their control and as the saying goes "Let Go and Let God"? You can get your own copy of White Picket Fences here.

Faith & Fangs Blog Tour & Giveaway

Ok, I'm a few days late on this. I have SO many books to read and review. It just caught up with me. I'm sorry... :( What am I apologizing for? Cause I'm going to try to overload you with reviews today. :D

We all know right now that vampires are the new "in" thing. New Moon *screaming like a teenage girl* was released just last week on November 20th. It's all very popular. Many people are worried though about the affect of this phenomenon on their religion, how it will affect their children and so on. Many Christians have boycott the movie and you can find MANY blogs that cover this topic. To me it's all entertainment ~ I like the Twilight series. I don't feel as if it reflects my beliefs. I'm not a devil worshiper or secretly in a Wiccan cult. But I respect others thoughts and I'm sorry if we can't agree on this.

The first book in this tour is called Touched by a Vampire: Discovering Hidden Messages in the Twilight Saga by Beth Felker Jones.
EXAMINING TWILIGHT THROUGH A BIBLICAL LENS

People around the world are asking the same question, enraptured with Edward and Bella’s forbidden romance in the Twilight Saga, a four-book serial phenomenon written by Stephenie Meyer. The bestsellers tell the story of a regular girl’s relationship with a vampire who has chosen to follow his “good” side. But the Saga isn’t just another fantasy–it’s teaching girls about love, sex, and purpose. With 48 million copies in print and a succession of upcoming blockbuster films, now is the time to ask the important question: Can vampires teach us about God’s plan for love?

Touched by a Vampire is the first book to investigate the themes of the Twilight Saga from a Biblical perspective. Some Christian readers have praised moral principles illustrated in the story, such as premarital sexual abstinence, which align with Meyer’s Mormon beliefs. But ultimately, Beth Felker Jones examines whether the story’s redemptive qualities outshine its darkness.

Cautionary, thoughtful, and challenging, Touched by a Vampire is written for Twilight fans, parents, teachers, and pop culture enthusiasts. It includes an overview of the series for those unfamiliar with the storyline and a discussion guide for small groups.

This book is really good for those of you that have heard both the good and bad about the Twilight series. It will help to guide you through the process of deciding whether or not it's something you feel comfortable with watching or reading.

The second book is called Thirsty by Tracey Bateman.
There's no place like home, they say.
"Hello, I'm Nina Parker…and I'm an alcoholic."
For Nina, it's not the weighty admission but the first steps toward recovery that prove most difficult. She must face her ex-husband, Hunt, with little hope of making amends, and try to rebuild a relationship with her angry teenage daughter, Meagan. Hardest of all, she is forced to return to Abbey Hills, Missouri, the hometown she abruptly abandoned nearly two decades earlier–and her unexpected arrival in the sleepy Ozark town catches the attention of someone–or something–igniting a two-hundred-fifty-year-old desire that rages like a wildfire.

Unaware of the darkness stalking her, Nina is confronted with a series of events that threaten to unhinge her sobriety. Her daughter wants to spend time with the parents Nina left behind. A terrifying event that has haunted Nina for almost twenty years begins to surface. And an alluring neighbor initiates an unusual friendship with Nina, but is Markus truly a kindred spirit or a man guarding dangerous secrets?

As everything she loves hangs in the balance, will Nina's feeble grasp on her demons be broken, leaving her powerless against the thirst? The battle between redemption and obsession unfold to its startling, unforgettable end.

This has been described as an excellent Christian alternative to the mainstream vampire novels. And I have to agree this is a really good book. At first I couldn't get into it. It seemed like it was going to be a hard one to read. As I continued on I really started to enjoy it. This might be an alternative for some of you out there.

Both of these books are great reads and you should definitely check them out. And right now I'm going to give you a chance to WIN one. I'm giving away ONE copy of Touched by a Vampire: Discovering Hidden Messages in the Twilight Saga. All you have to do is leave me a comment below telling me why you want it. :) A winner will be picked on December 2nd @ 11:59PM EST using Random.org.

*Disclaimer: I was provided copies of these books for free for review. The above opinion is my own.*
